Analysis for Face Attractiveness: What Are the Scoring Ranges and Factors?

Certain Dimensions And Ratios Create Harmony among Facial Features, which Decide Your Attractiveness!

To determine the Face Attractiveness Score, PinkMirror analyzes the geometric proportions of facial features such as the eyes, nose, lips, etc., and the distance between those. When the face analysis is finished, you are able to see which features of your face determine your beauty score.

Beauty is in the balance of these face analysis features, which artists from the NeoClassical era called the Aesthetic principles. These aesthetic principles are analyzed from the portraits, and they are then drawn and extracted into three generic rules. The ‘Rule of Fifths’, the ‘Rule of Thirds’, and the ‘Rule of 77’.

Rule Of Fifths

A proportionate face may be divided vertically into fifths, with each of those fifths being approximately the width of one eye. Aesthetic balance is considered ideal when the facial features fall within these dimensions. The width of the base of the nose is approximately equal to the distance between the eyes.

Rule of Thirds

Leonardo da Vinci, that all-around genius of science and art, developed a formula for determining a well-balanced face. He found that a well-balanced face can be evenly divided into thirds, vertically. The top third is from your hairline to the top of your brows. The middle third is from the top of the brows to the bottom of your nose. The bottom third is from the bottom of your nose to your chin.

Rule of 77

The above two rules deal with frontal features, and it is only one aspect of facial beauty. The third rule deals with the lateral depth or, in other words, side view.

The Frontal Face Analysis

The most attractive facial features irrespective of gender are the following.

  • Eye Cantal Tilt – A positive title is more attractive.
  • Bitemporal To Bizygoma Ratio – A smaller Bizygomatic width is preferred.
  • A lower facial fat deposit

When it comes to the facial attractiveness of each gender, sexual dimorphism comes to play. For example, the attractive frontal facial features specific to females are the following.

  • Bigonial-to-Bizygomatic Width Ratio – A smaller Bigonial width is preferred
  • Chin-to-Philtrum Length Ratio – A smaller ratio of Chin length is preferred.

On the contrary, the attractive features of males are as follows.

  • Mouth-to-Nose Width Ratio – A larger ratio of Mouth length is preferred.
  • Eye-to-Eyebrow Margin- A shorter margin between the Eye and Eyebrow is preferred.

The Beauty Scale

The Rule-of-Fifths, Rule-of-Thirds, and Rule-of-77 are simple representations of a complex interplay of aesthetic measures between different parts of a beautiful face.

In this beauty scale, the following aspects are considered.

  • Face structure (Frontal and Lateral Dimensions)
  • Symmetry (between the left and right side of the face)
  • Feature structure (Shape of individual features such as eyebrow, nose, etc.)
  • Skin quality (Skin Tone and Skin Clarity.)

Skin Tone: Skin quality must be mostly even across the face.

Skin Clarity: Lesser spots and wrinkles. The radiance of the skin showoff the health of the person.

Important Notice:

Please note that the face attractiveness score system with PinkMirror has limitations; hence it is not final. Beauty is the proportion of the whole face rather than just the individual features, so please use these values for informative purposes.

Score – [0 ~ 1]

With this face analysis score, the results may determine a very unattractive face because there is hardly any symmetry with the features.

Score – [1.0 ~ 2.9]

With this face analysis score, the results determine an unattractive face because the symmetry is not inline, and the proportions are not great.

Score – [3.0 ~ 6.9]

With this face analysis score, the results determine an average face because the facial symmetry is almost there. This group is the general population.

Score – [7.0 ~ 8.9]

With this face analysis score, the results may determine a beautiful and attractive face because the symmetry is close to perfect.

Score – [9.0 ~ 10]

With this face analysis score, you are exceptionally beautiful and belong to the top 10 percent of the population. But there is also a chance that you are wearing heavy makeup or the face is surgically enhanced.

The Angle of the Face and Score Variations

The variation of the face score generally has to do with the angle at which the photo is taken and the resulting variation in the pose of the face. When you add a photo in PinkMirror.com for beauty analysis, it is important to use photo with the person looking straight into the camera in order to do accurate calculations. The Rule-of-fifth, Rule-of-third, and Rule-of-77 are formulated based on photos with faces looking straight at the camera.

I used some ugly people and unflattering pictures that got 9s and beautiful people that got only 8s…. and some really ugly people got a minimum of 7. I guess this only measures the spacing of everything. I also looked at the Instagram linked in these comments and I disagree with your rating but you are still pretty, much love

I’m just saying use with caution and this is not 100% accurate

I got a 9.5 before and a 9.8 after, which I’m cynical about. However, Mia further up the comments stated that she was also given a high score and left her Instagram ID so I took a look to see. She IS beautiful and would be considered so by most people, so her score isn’t too surprising.

For some reason, it won’t allow me to ‘reply’ to Mia directly, but I thought it might be helpful to know that it doesn’t seem to have been ‘just being kind’ to her so it might follow that it’s not ‘just being kind’ to anyone else, either.

So, rejoice in your symmetry, be grateful and enjoy your beauty – and use it for good things! <3

I got a 9?! How?!
I know that with clear skin and a slightly slimmer nose I am quite pretty, but without the makeup to do that I’m not disastrously ugly, but im not pretty. I think I look average. But apparently my jawline and eyes are basically perfect, and I just need fuller lips and some other thing idk. I feel so happy.
Not sure if this is completely honest, they may be generous, but I’m happy with my results.

I am just assuming that others are here because of low self-esteem like myself and looking or hoping to find something that makes you feel better. just love yourself. physical beauty changes.

I don’t believe I am pretty whatsoever. Somehow, I got a 9.1 and a 9.2. I am contacting you because I believe that it is biased or just that someone is being nice. It seems from comments that other people have also been getting high scores. They might just be that pretty, but I still have my suspicions.

I got a 9.2 and 9.6 after retouch…its amazing to know a commoner is actually prettier than those jazz ones….
Thank you pinkmirror ;-))

I took a photo without makeup and my hair was all frizzly and i got a 9.2 with that and after retouching 9.3. How can this be possible?!?!?

Wow at first I had a 9 before retouching. I was so shocked and then after retouching I was a 9.5. This really boosted my confidence knowing how beautiful I actually am

I posted the pic of 2016 Mr world Rohit khandelwal who is a handsome hulk.It showed 9 at untouched photo and 9.1 at retouched photo. Then i posted a photo of my dear friend who looks very ordinary and got 9.2 and 9.3 at untouched and retouched respectively. How can this be posssible

Got 9 before retouching! Yay!! I get insecure cos my eyes are a little wonky but I guess being in proportion helped. Thanks!

I got 8.4 untouched and 8.8 retouched. It said I’m very attractive.
That’s amazing to hear because I always thought I was ugly despite the large amount of people telling me I’m naturally pretty.
But I’m kind of confused because pretty scale.com gave me a 48 and my sister a 96.

… I don’t think this is very accurate… I’m 8.9 according to this, but I know my face is a 7 at most. It’s quite unsymmetrical and skew. There is no way I almost have the same score as someone like Angelina Jolie. I’m not trying to be humble, I’m being sober and realistic.

Hm I considered myself not beautifull..Because no one used to talk with me(weird!,and I haven’t glanced at a mirror too much fearing that I may suck at it.I got a score of 9.4 and after retouch 9.5… Well I looked in a mirror.. Fantastic! But why no one talks with me so much??If anyone loves to talk with me just mention:)

I’m an 8.3 without alteration and a 9.5 with alteration.
That’s nice, considering I’m basically a potato with a face.

I got 9.4 out of 10!! People have told me that i’m so beautiful but i didn’t know how much, i’m actually surprised! Some of them have told me that i look like a mix of kylie jenner and mahlaga jaber

Wow, I am truly surpised by my rating got a 9.7 after retouch it was 10.

I never considered myself attractive as all my girl friends get the compliments and stares.

What do you guys think?

I got 9.2 for untouched photo and 9.5 for retouched photo. I still believe beauty resides in hr8 not face.
