Why is a thinner eyebrow better than a thicker one?

A survey was conducted among 163 women and 38 men (Hwang and Kim, 2018). They were asked to view illustrations of the 4 brow thickness levels and to choose which they thought were ideal, young-looking, healthy-looking, and sexy-looking. Brow thickness was defined in reference to the width of the palpebral fissure (eye width), as follows:

1.Thick(Tk - 1 / 3): the thickness of the eyebrow is 1 / 3(33 %) of the eye width at the lateral canthus.
2.Medium(Med - 1 / 4): the thickness of the eyebrow is 1 / 4(25 %) of the eye width at the lateral canthus.
3.Thin(Tn - 1 / 5): the thickness of the eyebrow is 1 / 5(20 %) of the eye width at the lateral canthus.
4.Very thin(VTn - 1 / 6): the thickness of the eyebrow is 1 / 6(16 %) of the eye width at the lateral canthus.

Results demonstrated that medium brow thickness(med-1 / 4(61.2 %, 123)) was significantly preferred over thick brow. Though thick brow was most often(40.8 %, 82) considered young-looking, there was no significant difference between thick and medium(35.3 %, 71) brow thickness. Thick brow(48.8 %, 98) was most often considered to be healthy - looking, followed by medium brow thickness(30.8 %, 62).On the other hand, thin brow was most commonly considered to be sexy - looking(40.8 %, 82), followed by very thin brows(25.9 %, 52).

Why is a larger ratio of Mouth Width to Nose Width attractive?

A larger ratio of mouth-width to nose-width is considered attractive. Research shows that the width of a person’s mouth compared to their nose can influence how attractive they’re perceived to be. Dawei et al. study in 1997 found that a mouth width about 1.5 times larger than the nose width is generally seen as more attractive. This was supported by Farkas et al. in 2007, who found that many North American men have this ratio. So, if someone’s mouth is the same size or smaller than their nose, it might not look as appealing to others. Another study by Hage and colleagues in 1997 mentioned that men with wider mouths appear more masculine. Lastly, Cunningham’s research in 1990 revealed that a smaller nose width is often associated with a manly facial appearance. In simple terms, for many people, a broader mouth and a smaller nose on men seem more attractive.

Why is a larger Bi-Gonial to Bi-Zygomatic Ratio better for males?

The bi-gonial width (distance between jaw’s lateral points) and bi-zygomatic width (distance between cheekbones’ lateral points) determine facial shape, differing in males and females. Altman (2012) found males have wider bi-gonial widths due to angular jaws, resulting in a larger bi-gonial to bi-zygomatic ratio. Lakhiani and Somenek (2019) observed that males’ inter-zygomatic width equals their bi-gonial width, indicating a square facial structure, unlike females with a smaller ratio and more oval faces. Windhager et al. (2011) correlated larger ratios in males with traits like attractiveness and masculinity, highlighting the bi-gonial to bi-zygomatic ratio’s significance in perceptions of male facial attractiveness.

Why is a larger philtrum length better for males?

The philtrum length, the distance from the base of the nose to the top of the upper lip, has been studied for its differences between genders and impact on attractiveness. Shin et al. (2014) found that various aspects of the upper lip, including philtrum length, are larger in males than females. Zankl et al. (2002) also observed that males tend to have a longer philtrum. Lakhiana and Somenek (2019) noted that females have shorter, fuller upper lips, implying that males have a longer upper lip and consequently a longer philtrum. Lastly, Nunes and Bran (2021) linked larger philtrum length with higher perioral attractiveness and a more youthful appearance, suggesting that more pronounced philtral contours, common in larger philtrum, are aesthetically desirable.
